Pulis - Appearance

Pulis (or Pulik) are compact, and well-balanced dogs. The characteristic feature of the breed is its shaggy coat. The coat is dense, and weather-resistant. Solid colors of black, gray and white are acceptable. The dog's head is well proportionate. The almond-shaped eyes are rather deep set. They are dark brown with black eye rims. The hanging ears are slightly higher than the level of the eyes. The Puli's nose is black. The teeth should meet in a scissors bite. The body is square, and is fairly muscular. The tail curves over the dog's back.

Pulis - Temperament

The Puli is smart, home loving and affectionate. Pulis are loyal dogs, but are known to have a mind of their own. They are intelligent, and can be a challenge to train. Pulis excel in the show ring, and in obedience and agility. Pulis have a cheerful and lively nature. They are not the best dogs to be around small children. Rough playing and teasing may make the dog nervous and aggressive.

Pulis - Origins

The Puli is an ancient breed of the Hungarian sheepdog. It was bred to herd sheep and guard livestock. The Magyars brought the breed when they invaded Hungary. The Puli was highly prized for its herding abilities, its agile movements, and intelligence. Pulis are popular companion dogs nowadays.
